              Contest Guidelines

The task for the Social Studies Fair this year is to focus on something you feel is important to know about. What is the most important thing happening right now and support your reasons why in a mini-documentary.

The focus can be local, national, or global. It can be big or it can be small. Your task is to provide support for why this thing (or person, event, contribution, etc) is important to know about.

All content should be original, not written or assembled by AI, or taken in whole by another source. A good documentary has man elements which you can learn more about in Mr. Bozic's workshop on January 21st from 2:00-3:00pm in Portable 1.

​Sign up: by Jan. 16th, 2026 online. The SS Department must approve all topics and teams. 
​WAIVERS: All participants filmed/featured in the mini-doc must submit a signed waiver (pdf file found here or in room 337). Submit waiver to Ms. Campbell in room 337.

FOCUS

REQUIREMENTS
Your video can include a historic, geographic, political, social, economic context as well. 

The BIG SIX approaches to historical or geographic thinking are helpful here and should be included: 

  1. Establishing Historical Significance 
  2. Considering the Ethical Implications of events 
  3. Considering an issue from Multiple Historical Perspectives 
  4. Utilizing and Analyzing Primary Sources 
  5. Analyzing the degree of Continuity and or Change   
  6. Exploring the Causes and Consequences of events of developments

  • Video format: 3-7 minutes long (not including the credits) about why "inclusion not exclusion is the key to survival". 
  • Large file to be submitted as an unlisted YouTube link here
  • All participants filmed/featured in the mini-doc must submit a signed media waiver to qualify (pdf found below)​
  • Teams of 1-4 people

Judging and Prizes
A panel of teachers and staff judges will select the top three 
documentaries
